Holiday season is right around the corner, and several communities will be celebrating the special time of year this weekend.
Residents will enjoy trolley rides, a scavenger hunt and crafts during “Sunman Celebrates the Season” on Friday. Not to mention, Santa and his reindeer are scheduled to make a stop from the North Pole at some point during the evening.
“Not only are the adults going to food and crafts vendors, but there is also going to be things for kids,” said Sunman Chamber of Commerce Vice President Anna Ibold. “It will be fun for the entire family so come on out!”
The Sunman Chamber of Commerce is holding the event to recognize the entire season.
Ibold explained, “We are celebrating Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. We did not want to leave out any of the holidays!”
The festivities run from 5-8pm with the Holiday Parade starting at 6pm. Lineup is at the Trees Mobile Home Park.
The Holiday Bazaar will be at the Sunman American Legion. Call Ed at 812-623-2972 for reservations.
Batesville
Crews were setting up tents at the Village Square Thursday in anticipation of the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce Holiday Parade on Saturday Nov 23.
The parade begins at 1pm with lineup on Columbus Avenue across from the Batesville Intermediate School at 11:30am.
The parade will proceed south on Mulberry to West Pearl, east to Main Street, North on Main to Boehringer to Park, south of Park to George Street, west on George to Mulberry, then north on Mulberry to Columbus.
The parade themed as “A Birthday Celebration,” with be led by grand marshals Doug Bessler, who received the Distinguished Service Award and Ann Amrhein, Educator of the Year. Distinguished Volunteer Group the Eureka Band, Distinguished Organization Rural Alliance for the Arts and Special Award recipient The Maverick Challenge will also make appearances during the parade.
Prior to the parade, the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor food and craft vendors at the Village Square beginning at 11:30am.
Parade Chairman Ryan Tekulve said, “The Fritsch Family will be singing and we will have the Dance Studio ballerinas will also perform.”
“After the parade, Santa Claus will be visiting with the kids [at the Village Sqaure] and the Eureka Band will be performing,” Tekulve added.
The Chamber of Commerce will be giving away at least $500 worth of Chamber Gift Certificates to promote “Stay, Shop, Support Local.” Free raffle tickets will be given away at the Chamber booth during the celebration with the drawing at 2:45pm.
Brookville
Franklin County residents are gearing up for the November Noel celebration Saturday Nov. 23.
Carriage rides, free family activities, music, games, food and the opportunity to meet Santa and his reindeer will take place on the Courthouse Lawn in Brookville from 1-5pm.
Have a spare coat? The United Way will be collecting Coats for Kids during the event.
