(Friendship, IN) – The Friendship Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a home on the 5-thousand block of South State Road 129 around 9:15 Saturday night after it was reported that a chimney was malfunctioning.
The 11 responding firefighters found the home was being heated by a wood furnace in the basement, and that a large amount of smoke was coming from the furnace’s flue pipe which was attached to the chimney.
After several attempts were made to clear the chimney, a large amount of straw and a bird nest were removed.
The fire in the furnace was put out, the house was ventilated and burned material removed.
There were no injuries reported.
Firefighters remained on the scene until just past 11 p.m.
