Cletus J. Wesseler Obituary

Cletus J. Wesseler of Greensburg, IN passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2021.  He was born October 8, 1940 in Batesville, IN to Henry and Cecilia Wesseler.

After moving to Millhousen as a young boy, Clete attended Immaculate Conception grade school and Napoleon High School, graduating in 1958.  He volunteered for the draft in 1960, and served two years of active military duty for the Army, stationed in Korea.

Upon completing service, Clete enrolled in college, ultimately earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Indiana State University.  His career in accounting took him to Indianapolis, IN and Sullivan, IN, where he held finance roles of increasing responsibility for several large firms.  He retired from AMAX Coal Company in 1997, but continued to work for smaller organizations until 2002 after returning to live in Greensburg to be near his family.  He maintained his Certified Public Accounting credential throughout his career and was active in the Institute of Management Accountants and the Indiana CPA Society.

Cletus grew up on his family farm, and never lost his love for growing flowers and food in his many gardens.  As a hobby, he also liked to keep animals – horses, chickens, goats in younger days, and as he got older – dogs.  He kept in touch with his many family and friends through personal visits, phone calls, and attending church and family functions.

Survivors include Clete’s three children: Allen Wesseler of Franklin, IN, Jean Ryan of Cambria, WI and Lynn Seufert (David) of Louisville, KY; his grandchildren Jeremy and Justin Ryan and Catherine, Sam, and Edward Seufert; siblings Bernard Wesseler (Patsy), Donald Wesseler (Beth), Elvera Muckerheide (David) of Greensburg, IN and Barbara Retzner (Martin) of Hanover, IN.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Francis Wesseler.
