Clarence B. Harmeyer, of St. Mary’s of the Rock, was born on June 28, 1919 in St. Mary’s, Indiana the son of August and Clara Vonderheide Harmeyer. He served his country during World War II with the United States Army. Clarence retired from General Motors and farmed his entire life in St. Mary’s. He was a life member of St. Mary’s of the Rock Catholic Church, the Brookville Wilburn Dennison Post #2014 VFW and the Brookville Bernard Hurst Post #77 American Legion. Clarence enjoyed buying and selling livestock, liked to attend farm auctions, and enjoyed gardening, watching baseball, and visiting with friends and neighbors. On Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at the age of 97, he passed away at Margaret Mary Health in Batesville.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews; numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews, as well as one sister in law, Joyce Harmeyer of St. Mary’s. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Mae H. Roell; 4 brothers, Albert, Arthur, Lester and Herbert Harmeyer, and 3 infant siblings.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, March 18, 2017 from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s of the Rock Catholic Church. Burial with full military honors provided by the Brookville Bernard Hurst Post #77 American Legion, and the Brookville Wilburn Dennison Post #2014 VFW will follow in the church cemetery.
