(Batesville, IN) – City officials are asking Batesville residents to help snow crews by moving vehicles off city streets and into driveways ahead of the approaching winter weather, a step they say is critical for both safety and effective snow removal.
The Batesville Street Department plans to work throughout the storm, but officials say parked vehicles can slow plowing operations and increase the risk of cars being buried by snow pushed to the curb.
Mayor John Irrgang said keeping streets clear allows crews to do their jobs more thoroughly and safely.
“Park your cars in your driveways if you can,” Irrgang said. “If they’re off the street, that really aids our street department to get the roads more thoroughly cleaned.”
City officials are also urging residents to limit travel once snow begins to fall, particularly if it is not necessary to be out.
“If they don’t need to go out, stay at home,” Irrgang said, adding that patience during and after the storm will help crews reach all neighborhoods as conditions allow.
Beyond plowing operations, Irrgang emphasized personal safety and community awareness during the winter weather event.
“I just want to remind everybody to be safe and do your part in helping us do our part, so we can keep the streets safe for everyone involved,” he said.
The mayor also encouraged residents to look out for others who may need assistance, particularly during prolonged cold or hazardous conditions.
“If you have an elderly neighbor or a neighbor that might need some assistance, keep your eyes open for them too,” Irrgang said. “Just be aware, and we’re all gonna try to do our best to take care of the situation.”
City crews will continue working as long as conditions require, and residents are asked to remain patient as plows make their way through Batesville.
