Charles R. “Bob” Finnegan, 77, of Dillsboro passed away peacefully at his home with his loving family by his side on Friday, August 1, 2025. Bob was born on Sunday, May 16, 1948, in Hanover; son of Thomas and Mary (Manaugh) Finnegan. Bob married the love of his life, Mary Jo (Ashland) Finnegan, in 1969, and she survives him. Bob was a member of the Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Dillsboro and was a previous member of the Dillsboro Volunteer Fire Department. He worked as an investment broker for Hummel Insurance and started Huseman Insurance Agency in 1983. Bob was known to be a very social person and loved spending time talking to and getting to know people. He and his wife were named Dillsboro Homecoming Festival King and Queen in 2019. He had a passion for coaching and in 1978 he became the first boys’ varsity basketball coach at South Dearborn High School. Bob was inducted into the basketball hall of fame at Southwestern High School in Hanover, IN and at The University of Dubuque in Iowa, where he still holds the record for single season points scored. He enjoyed going golfing, working, and going out to dinner with family and friends. He also enjoyed traveling to Bonita Springs, Florida, with his wife Mary Jo. Most of all Bob cherished spending time with his family and friends.
Bob will be missed by his wife Mary Jo Finnegan of Dillsboro; sons Andy (Trish) Finnegan and Casey (Kari) Finnegan of Dillsboro; brother James “Jim” (Brenda) Finnegan of Madison; and grandchildren Madison, Charles and James Finnegan.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Mary Finnegan; brother Bud Finnegan; and sister Anne Jenner.
A Celebration of Life will be held by the family at a later date. Memorials may be given in honor of Bob to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
