The St. Louis Cardinals 8th grade team travelled to South Dearborn Middle School on Monday to play the host South Dearborn Squires winning 43-26.
The Cardinals came out playing some good solid defense and led after the first quarter 13-4. However, the Squires for South Dearborn also played some good defense and held the Cardinals to only 5 points in the 2nd quarter. The half ended with the Cardinals up just 9 points with the score 18-9.
The 3rd quarter was evenly matched as the Squires outscored the Cardinals 12-11 and so going into the 4th quarter the Cardinals lead was trimmed by a point as they led 29-21. Finally in the fourth quarter St. Louis was able to knock down some shots and continued to play solid defense which allowed the Cardinals to pull away from the Squires and win the game by the final score of 43-26.
The scoring for the Cardinals consisted of Ben Schebler with 2, Riley Schebler 3, Andrew Oesterling 13, Lleyton Ratcliffe 5, Wil Freeland 5, and Sam Voegele had 15 for the Cardinals. On defense, Voegele and Ratcliffe played well as they were able to pull in numerous rebounds.
The Cardinals play next on Tuesday against St. Michael’s and then travel to Laurel on Thursday.
