The 8th Grade SLS Cardinals basketball team defeated South Ripley Jr. High 32-28 Thursday, December 18.
A “lid” was placed on the Cardinals basket throughout the game, and yet the Cardinals prevailed despite suffering through their worst shooting night of the year. The Cardinals trailed by 5 points at the half and continued to have difficulty scoring the basketball in the second half.
Robert Raver was the game’s leading scorer and Nathan Eckstein came through for the Cardinals down the stretch scoring on a beautiful pass from Raver and grabbing a rebound off a missed free throw that helped ensure the victory. Kevin Salatin also played an all-round good game defending and rebounding.
The Cardinals have played 15 games and stand at 13-2 on the season at the Christmas break.
