Candy Man giving away a key to a candy factory

Nationwide —

An update from Jelly Belly-

Due to confusion in the marketplace, Jelly Belly Candy Company would like to take this opportunity to clear up the misconception that it is involved with a contest that purportedly offers a candy factory as its grand prize. Jelly Belly Candy Company, formerly known as Herman Goelitz Candy Company, has candy making roots back to 1869.  It was founded by brothers Gustav and Albert Goelitz and remains family-owned and operated today.

David Klein, the sponsor of the “treasure hunt” contest gaining attention within the media this weekend, is not associated with Jelly Belly Candy Company, its brands, or products. In 1976, Mr. Klein, an independent third party, came up with the name “Jelly Belly” and other novel marketing ideas.  Jelly Belly Candy Company has not had a relationship with Mr. Klein since 1980 when it acquired the trademark.

Original Story-

How would you like to win the keys to a candy castle? If it sounds like a new Willy Wonka movie, it’s not. The creator of the name Jelly Belly, David Klein, is retiring, and is giving families the chance to search for a “Golden Ticket”. The overall winner will get the keys to one of the candy factories.

You can join the treasure hunt by buying a clue for your state. The riddle to help hunters find Indiana’s “gold ticket” will be released to buyers on a date that has not yet been revealed. Other states will start getting their clues later this month and into October.

You must have a Facebook account to get access to the clues, which will be posted in a private group. The gold ticket will be a golden-colored dog tag on a necklace, with a code you can enter to verify that you found it. Once you’ve done that, you’ll win $5,000. There will be multiple treasures hidden in each state, and remember, they could be anywhere in the state.

All treasure hunt winners will then qualify for the “Ultimate Treasure Hunt,” which expands the search nationwide. That’s when Klein promises to give away the key to one of his candy factories.
