BZA Turns Down Solar Request

(Greensburg, IN) – The Decatur County Board of Zoning Appeals voted unanimously this week to deny Geenex/Cobia Solar’s request for a special exception to build a commercial solar energy facility in the Burney/Clay Township area.

BZA members heard comments from nearly a dozen residents.

An overwhelming number of them spoke in opposition to the petition.

Geenex representatives offered rebuttals following the public comments.

Afterward, the BZA voted 5-0 to deny the petition.

It’s the second time in the past year that the Decatur County BZA has unanimously turned down a solar company’s bid to lease property in the county.

RWE Clean Energy’s request for a special exception to place commercial solar energy facilities on several parcels of land north of Greensburg in Washington and Clinton townships was rejected in September 2024.

This week’s meeting was held in the Greensburg High School auditorium to accommodate the large crowd.
