Bulldogs Sweep Shiners In Season Opening DH

  • Batesville Blows Away Rising Sun By Nine Runs to Open the Season
  • Despite all of the rain the past two weeks, the Batesville Bulldog baseball team was able to travel to Rising Sun to play an opening season doubleheader. In game one, the Bulldogs cruised to an easy victory over Rising Sun 11-2 on Saturday.
  • While Rising Sun scored first in the third inning, the Bulldogs pulled away for good with three runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth an error scored one run for Batesville and, junior, Quinn Werner singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs. The Bulldogs scored four more runs in the sixth inning.
  • Batesville put up four insurance runs in the seventh inning, as Drew Kiefer, Sam Voegele, and Werner each had RBIs in the big inning.
  • Senior Joe Bohman earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound for Batesville. He lasted six innings, allowing five hits and one run (unearned) while striking out three. Shane Meer threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
  • Brent Turner took the loss for Rising Sun. He allowed three hits and three runs over four innings, striking out five.
  • The Bulldogs scattered eight hits in the game. Lane Oesterling, Werner, and Voegele each had two hits to lead the Bulldogs. Batesville stole seven bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Wernerled the way with two.zz
  • Bulldogs Stay Undefeated with win against Rising Sun
  • Bulldogsjumped out to an early lead over Rising Sun and took home an 8-4 victory on Saturday. Bulldogs scored on a walk by Clay Grunkemeyer, a walk by Trey Heidlage, and a fielder’s choice by Quinn Werner in the second inning.
  • Rising Sun scored three runs in the first inning, but Batesville still managed to pull out the victory, 8-4. The Bulldogs took the lead for good in the second inning, as they scored five runs. Caleb Raab and Trey Peters both had hits in the second inning to spark the Batesville rally. Quinn Werner had two RBIs on a fielder’s choice during the inning
  • Freshman Sam Voegele earned the win for the Bulldogs. He lasted five innings, allowing three hits and three runs while striking out four. Nate Slavin entered the game and allowed no runs in the sixth, but allowed a run in the seventh and had the bases loaded. At that point, junior Caleb Raab entered the game out of the bullpen and recorded the last two outs to earn the save for the Bulldogs.
  • Jimenez took the loss for Rising Sun. He went four innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and striking out four.
  • Batesville the ball well in game two, racking up 11 hits in the game. Raab, Calvin Sherwood, and Werner each managed multiple hits for the Bulldogs. Raab went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the team in hits. Batesville stole six bases during the game (13 for the day) as two players stole more than one. Brayden Linkel led the way with two.
  • Following the win, the Bulldogs are 2-0 on the year and open up conference play on Monday, April 2nd at Connersville.
