Bulldogs And Pirates Indoor Track Invitational Results From East Central

The Batesville High School Track and Field team opened up their indoor season Saturday as they competed at the East Central Indoor Invitational.  This was not a team scored event, but a chance for the kids to compete to try to qualify for the Indoor State meet at Indiana University on March 28th.  Athletes will earn qualifications if their times or distances are in the top 24 around the state by March 21st. There were some really great performances to kick off the 2020 season on Saturday including several personal bests AND a new meet record.  JJ Kuisel broke a meet record held since 2007 in the 400m dash by .61 of a second.  JJ ran a 55.23 beating the field by over a second. 

Other 1st place finishes for the day were Gabe Gunter, jumping a personal best in high jump at 6’1″ and vaulting a personal best of 11’0″ in pole vault. The boys 4 x 800m relay also captured 1st with a time of 9:09.94 with the team of Ean Loichinger, Nathan Villani, Will Nuhring, and JJ Kuisel. Liz Loichinger beating a field of 35 runners in the 800 with a 2:39.7. 

2nd place finishers for the day were: Justin Heiser-long jump (19’4″); Ean Loichinger-800m run (2:14.8); 776m sprint medley relay of Willy Sherwood, Brayden Linkel, Gabe Gunter and . Justin Heiser (1:45.03); 4 x 400m relay teams of: Vonley Hund, Ean Loichinger, Will Nuhring and Gabe Gunter (4:02.92) and Katie Olsen, Carley Pride, Liz Loichinger and Madelyn Pohlman (4:46.53).  

Placing 3rd were: Kent Meyer-high jump; 4 x 800m relay of Katie Olsen, Maria Lopez, Ava Hanson and Liz Loichinger

4 x 400m relay of Lizzy Nobbe, Maria Lopez, Roxanne Hund and Ava Hanson; Madelyn Pohlman captured 4th place in the 400m dash. 

5th place finishes were: Kent Meyer-pole vault; Trysta Vielring-3200m run’\; 776m sprint medley of: Lizzy Nobbe, Makayla Granger, Jada Eisert, and Nadine Davis.

Placing 6th were: Justin Heiser-200m dash; Carley Pride-high jump; Katie Olsen-800m run; Madison Rahschulte-3200m run

4 x 800m relay of Adam Hollowell, Dillon Murray, Kyler Daulton and Daren Smith; 4 x 400m relay of Willy Sherwood, Nathan Villani, Daren Smith, and Luke Nuhring. 

7th place finishes were: Justin Heiser-55m dash; Roxanne Hund-55m hurdles; Maria Lopez-800m run; 776m sprint medley of Vonley Hund, Jylil Chappell,  Thomas Hartman, and Chase Hamilton.  

Carley Pride placed 8th in the 400m dash.

Batesville will travel to UIndy next Saturday for a much bigger invitational to try and qualify for the indoor state.

The Lady Pirates opened their season Saturday in St Leon for a 13 team Indoor Invitational hosted by East Central. It proved to be a very successful day for Greensburg as the girls came home with two new meet records and 5 Championship performances.

Elizabeth Mitchell broke two East Central Indoor Invitational Records in both Long Jump and the 55 Hurdle race. Mitchell leaped 16′ 9.5″ for the Long Jump Championship.  Franklin County’s Ashlan Hill’s 16’1 was the previous record set in 2018. Mitchell also set a new Indoor Invite Record with her 9.16 winning race in 55m Hurdles. Audrey Griffin of East Central set the previous record at 9.40 in 2018.   

Along with Mitchell’s 2 Championship performances, senior Korey Kidd beat all her opponents with an outstanding indoor PR of 8’6 in Pole Vault and Brenner Hanna won the 3200. Sophie Nobbe, Emma Hatton, Emily Mangels, and Hanna also edged out the competition for the win during the 4 x 800 Relay race. Other Indoor Personal Record performances came from Emily Million in High Jump and Hillary Ernstes in the 400 race. All the ladies performed well and it will be exciting to see how they improve as the season progresses.
