BSU Builds Teacher Pipeline

(Muncie, IN) – Ball State University is stepping up its push to address Indiana’s teacher shortage with the launch of a new STEM Education Center.

University leaders officially unveiled the center during “Ball State Day at the Statehouse,” positioning it as a hub designed to recruit, prepare, and support future science, technology, engineering and math educators.

The center will focus on hands-on learning opportunities and partnerships with K-12 schools, creating clearer pathways for students who want to enter the classroom as STEM teachers. Dr. Andrew Gatza, an associate professor of mathematical sciences, will serve as the center’s director.

Ball State officials say the STEM Education Center will also support cross-campus collaboration among faculty and staff, with a goal of strengthening STEM education research and expanding opportunities to connect university students with real-world teaching experiences in K-12 settings.
