Brookville Town Council terminates two police officers’ employment

Brookville, IN — Two police officers are out of a job after Brookville Town Council voted to terminate the employment of Chief Terry Mitchum and Lt. Ryan Geiser.

The firings come as a result of last July’s Motion to Suppress hearing on obtained evidence that led to the arrests of a former Brookville Town Council candidate and another resident.

Geiser testified at the hearing that the arrests were ordered by Mitchum.

The Town Council’s vote to terminate the officers’ employment followed a recommendation from the Brookville Safety Board.

Both Mitchum and Geiser were cleared of criminal wrongdoing by a special prosecutor in October, but the Safety Board reviewed civil issues related to both officers following a recommendation from legal counsel.

The Safety Board accepted six disciplinary charges against Mitchum and three counts against Geiser.

After listening to testimony during a disciplinary hearing, the Safety Board found Mitchum guilty of four of the six charges and found Geiser guilty on all three counts levied against him.
