Bro. Dale Canull, 84, of Versailles passed away at 2pm, Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the Columbus Regional Hospital. He was born in Tuscola, Illinois on December 21, 1937, the son of Edward and Geneva Swinford Canull. He was married to Barbara Stewart on April 20, 1958 and she preceded him in death on August 26, 2021. Survivors include one son Michael Canull of Versailles; two daughters Cheryl (David) Jolly of Versailles and Sarah (Jeff) Shelton of Anderson; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Charles and Larry. After high school Dale enlisted in the US Army on January 29, 1955 and was discharged on January 15, 1958, serving as a paratrooper in the 76th Tank Battalion. For service to his country Dale received the Good Conduct Medal and Parachute Badge. He was graded as a marksman with the pistol and as a First Class Gunner with the 90MM. After the service Dale was a long time employee of the Ford Motor Company in Cincinnati. He was ordained into the Christian Ministry in 1973, receiving his Bachelors Degree in Sacred Literature from the Cincinnati Bible College in 1977, and later his Master of Theology degree from the Louisville Bible College. Dale’s ministry spanned 40 years where he served as minister for Christian churches in Clarksburg, New Whiteland, Greenfield, Richmond, and also in Norfolk, Virginia and Richmond, Kentucky. He was also the former minister of the Shelby Christian Church near Versailles and the Liberty Christian Church near Madison. In his off time, Dale was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his family. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 6 at 11am at the Shelby Christian Church where Dale was a member. Tim Heim will officiate the service with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5pm to 7pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10am until time of services Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Shelby Christian Church building fund in care of the funeral home.
