(New Castle, IN) – Batesville High School junior Adam Brewer became just the seventh wrestler in program history to qualify for the IHSAA State Wrestling Championships following his second-place finish at Saturday’s Semi-State in New Castle.
Brewer secured his state berth with three victories on the day, including two wins over ranked opponents.
His season record now stands at 47-2, which is a new Batesville single-season mark for most wins.
Sophomore Carson Weiler narrowly missed advancing to the state finals, falling just one victory short of qualification.
Weiler concludes his outstanding season with a 44-4 record, the second-highest single-season win total in school history behind Brewer.
Indiana’s state championship finals is widely regarded as one of the most difficult to reach in the nation. Competing in a single-class format, only 16 wrestlers in each weight class qualify for the IHSAA State Finals each year.
Brewer will compete Friday night at 6 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
