The Batesville Freshman fell to the East Central Trojans on Thursday night 44-36.
Gunner Olsen and Zach Britton led they way for Batesville with 12 points each. Alex Roell added 6 and Peyton Meyer chipped in 5 in the losing effort. Mitch Esser was the only other Bulldog to record a point, with 1.
“We got off to a great start (8-2), but to East Central’s credit, they matched and bettered that effort with a 9-0 run of their own to end the first quarter”. Batesville Coach Ben Siefert.
The Bulldogs erased a 5 point halftime deficit to tie the game early in the 3rd quarter. However, Batesville was never able to take a second half lead and were outscored 23-20 in the second half.
“We shot the ball really well tonight. We hit nine 3pt field goals against their 3-2 zone. The deference was the scoring inside. They had 24 points inside of 2, a lot of which were put backs where we didn’t find a man on the defensive boards. We only scored three field goals inside of 2 the entire night. That was the difference. To their credit they kept us off the offensive glass and limited our opportunities.”
Batesville Coach Ben Siefert.
With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 3-2 on the season. They will be in action again Saturday morning, in the Ripley County Invitational. Batesville will play Milan in game #1. Tip time is 10:00am.
