The Batesville 8th Grade boys basketball team started its season this past Saturday by claiming the South Ripley Invitational championship.
BMS started the day with a 31-15 victory over Jac-Cen-Del which included a 13-0 run in the first quarter. Logan Schneider led the Bulldogs with 15 points and that was followed by four points apiece from Jonah Heil and Timothy Quilin. Henry Candelot and Abram Powner scored three points each and Nolan Gesell added two points.
The Bulldogs led by as many as 17 points in the championship game en route to beat host South Ripley by a 33-23 final score. A 12-3 first quarter surge put the blue and white out for good. Schneider again led with another 15 points and Clayton Kaiser totaled eight points. Gesell and Candelot scored four points apiece and Heil chipped in two points.
Batesville (2-0) plays East Central on Saturday in the opening round of the South Dearborn Tip-Off Tournament.
