Billy Merrit Walker, of Sunman, was born on February 28, 1938, in McLean County, Kentucky, a son to Robert and Rhinetta Green Walker. He graduated from Mclean County High School in Sacramento, Kentucky and went on to serve his country in the United States Army. Bill married Mary Ann Allgeier on October 16, 1971, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in St. Leon, Indiana. He worked for a newspaper in Spencer, Indiana and then at McPherson’s, retiring after 30 years of service as a printer. Bill was a member of the Sunman Community Church and volunteered for the Sunman Food Pantry. He enjoyed caring for family and friends in Sunman. In his spare time, you could find him gardening, taking walks around town with his coffee and walking at state parks. On Monday, April 8, 2024, at the age of 86, he passed away at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville.
Those surviving who will cherish Bill’s memory include his loving wife, Mary Ann Walker; daughter, Julie Helmers; one grandson, Paul and his wife Veronica (Hartman) Helmers; two granddaughters, Anna and Lydia Helmers, and one great-grandson, Nathaniel Helmers. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert C. Walker, Alice Wayne Walker Lambert, Hilda Walker Martin, and Anna “Vicki” Walker Tudor.
Friends may visit to remember and celebrate Bill’s life on Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m. at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, 107 Vine Street, Sunman. Adam Boesken will officiate the funeral service beginning at 11:30.
