(Statehouse) – A bill at the Statehouse that would have allowed Rising Star Casino and Resort to relocate from Rising Sun to New Haven in the Fort Wayne area is no longer under consideration.

State Sen. Ron Alting (R-Lafayette) pulled Senate Bill 293 after more than two hours of testimony before a committee from around 20 opponents.

About 12 people testified in support of the license transfer.

Rising Star’s parent company Full House Resorts wants to move the casino because revenues in Southeastern Indiana have dried up since neighboring Ohio and Kentucky legalized gambling, particularly with the opening of casinos in and around Cincinnati.

State Sen. Andy Zay (R-Huntington) filed the bill earlier this month.

Rising Star Casino opened in 1996 as Grand Victoria Casino.
