To qualify for the HSR, an individual athlete’s or relay team’s time, height or distance needs to be ranked in the state’s top 24 of the state.
Four personal records were broken in the first meet, which put several Batesville athletes in that state qualifying position. As of Sunday evening, here are the Bulldogs who are ranked in the state top 24 based on Saturday’s performances:
- Liam Wagner-long jump (18’6.5″)-22nd
- Gage Lancaster-high jump (5’8″)-19th
- Jeff Gerstbauer-shot put (43’6.5″)-19th
- Paige Allgeier-high jump (4’10”)-13th
- Maycee Holtkamp-high jump (5’0″)-9th
- Maggie Jelinek, Avi Miller, Maycee Holtkamp and Abby Miller-4 x 200m relay (1:54.78)-9th
- Jayla Bedel, Paige Allgeier, Francesca Myers, Bayleigh Demaree-4 x 800m relay (10:39.97)-7th
- Maycee Holtkamp, Francesca Myers, Bayleigh Demaree, Abby Miller-4 x 400m relay (4:28.32)-6th
- Ella King-shot put (38’2.75″)-4th
- Cannon Clark, Cash Myers, Ryan Benz, Griffin Koester-4 x 800m relay (8:40.20)-4th
However, Batesville coach Lisa Gausman says the highlight came when the last relay team (4 x 400) of James Rowland, Cannon Clark, Cash Myers and Griffin Koester came in first for the meet at 3:33.01 and ranked 3rd in the state.
Those breaking personal bests were Liam Wagner in the long jump; Jeff Gerstbauer in shot put; Griffin Koester on his split in the 4 x 400m relay, and Ryan Benz for his split in the 4 x 800m relay.
There were several other meets happening around the state this past weekend, with two more weeks of qualifying meets to go.
Batesville will compete again this Friday at the University of Indianapolis to see if the team can improve on times and move up in the rankings, or qualify in other events.
The Hoosier State Relays will take place at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on Saturday, March 28.
