The Batesville high school men’s swimming program wrapped up their season at the East Central sectional on Thursday and Saturday, February 20 and 22, 2025.
The men’s program nearly matched the women’s effort at the meet with seven swims on the night (5 individual and two relays).
Juniors Sam Richardson and Ben Kuntz and Sophomore Matthew Lambert made their first appearances in the finals of the competition making it back in the 100 Breaststroke (Richardson) and 50 and 100 Freestyle (Kuntz and Lambert).
While all individual efforts were inside of the consolation finals, the boys made it exciting by dropping times and with Matthew Lambert tying for 9th place in the 50 Freestyle.
The Medley Relay effort of Freshman Richard “Tripp” Hertel, Richardson, Parker Oldham and Lambert finished 11th (seeded 12th at prelims). The 200 Free relay of Lambert, Oldham, Richardson, and Kuntz finished in the only podium effort of the night finishing at 8th place.
“The team pulled out a tremendous finish to the season with these races. Sam was able to come away with a second alternate finish in the 100 Fly and made it back in the 100 Breast while Ben and Matthew were able secure B-final swims for both individual events,” said head coach Greg McMullen. “We made huge improvements on last year where some of these boys were in the 20’s for their events to now being finalists.”
Overall, the Bulldogs finished in 11th place of the 14 teams.
