Bette R. (Hyser) Belschner, 97, of Dillsboro formerly of New Haven, Indiana passed away Friday, February 3, 2023 at The Waters of Dillsboro. Bette was born on Saturday, January 16, 1926 in New Haven, Indiana; daughter of Ernest and Evelyn (Curry) Hyser. Bette married her husband George Belschner in 1974; he then preceded her in death in 1991. Bette worked as a tape librarian at Essex Wire in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Bette was a member of the Dillsboro American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Navy Club of New Haven, Indiana. Bette enjoyed working crossword puzzles, playing cards, loved flip-flops, and was known to make fantastic fried chicken. Bette especially loved her dog Bailey, who preceded her in death last year.
Bette will be missed by her daughter Lana Melton of Dillsboro; grandchildren Jason (Nicole) Melton of New Albany, Ohio, and Kari (Casey) Finnegan of Dillsboro; great-grandchildren Charlie Finnegan, James Finnegan, Everett Melton, and Alton Melton.
Bette was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Evelyn Hyser; husband George Belschner; daughter Candy Richie; and granddaughter Jennifer Shoppell.
The family will be having a Celebration of Life at a later date. Memorials may be given in honor of Bette to the Dillsboro American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
