Benjamin A. “Ben” Hollins

Benjamin A. “Ben” Hollins, age 69 of Batesville, Indiana, passed away peacefully, Sunday, May 26, 2024, at his home.  Born February 24, 1955, in Glasgow, Kentucky, he is the son of Verlin and Lucille (Nee: Warf) Hollins.  He married Barbara Ruth on November 9, 1974, in Louisville, Kentucky and she preceded him in death on March 16, 2014.

Ben was a simple man.  He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and working in his garage.  He was always fixing something, whether it be a car, truck, motorcycle, or even a boat!  He could fix anything!  He was most proud of his motorcycles and his yellow 36 Ford that he built from scratch.  It was his pride and joy.

After high school, Ben enlisted in the Marines.  Shortly after, he met Barbara.  She was his first love, and they began their life together in Louisville, KY.  They had two sons, Chris and Adam.  Ben loved his family dearly and always wanted the best for them.  He took a job with Hill-Rom and moved the family to Batesville.  He worked for the company for nearly 30 years.  The family shares that those who worked with Ben always mentioned that he was a great person.  They described him as smart, kind, a hard worker, well-respected, relatable, and fair.  Before retiring, Ben worked for Whittrock.  There he met his second love, Peggy. He was lucky to find love twice.

Ben never met a stranger.  He was a cut-up.  From his many Hawaiian shirts, quirky personality, and practical jokes, Ben was always up for a good chuckle.  He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, from special handshakes to telling them how special they were.  He loved his sweets, especially chocolate, ice cream, and chocolate malts.

He is survived by his girlfriend Peggy Welsh of Greensburg, Indiana; sons Chris (Jill) Hollins of Batesville and Adam (Laura) Hollins of Oldenburg, Indiana; grandchildren Abe, Jack, Wes, and Ava Hollins; sister Rachel and brother Ray.  In addition to his wife Barbara, Ben was preceded in death by his sister Wanda.

In accordance with Ben’s wishes, cremation was chosen by the family.  A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, June 13th, from 4 – 7 p.m., at the New Point Community Center, 8041 East County Road 195 South, New Point. Indiana 47263.  Memorial contributions may be made to Genesis: Pathways to Success.  For online condolences go to www.weigelfh.com.
