Beating leads to maximum sentence for Laurel man

Brookville, In. — Four months after a violent, unprovoked broad daylight attack a Laurel man has been sentenced to six years in prison, the maximum allowed by law.

Court documents say in May of this year Jeffery Henson, 24, attacked a 55-year-old man in front of Baker’s Liqours. Officers responded to reports that Henson has beating and kicking the unconscious victim. The victim was treated and released at a local hospital.

Witnesses told police that prior to the attack Henson was pacing outside the store in an agitated state. When the victim walked out of the store Henson attacked.

During a sentencing hearing Henson told the court he had smoked methamphetamine earlier in the day and blamed the attack on addiction.
