Saturday, at approximately 9:15 p.m., the Indiana State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on St. Mary’s Road near Morris Road.

As a result of the crash, the driver of the vehicle died as a result of his injuries and a passenger was transported to a Batesville Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The initial investigation revealed that Glen Smith, 50, of Batesville, was traveling eastbound on St. Mary’s Road when the vehicle left the roadway for an unknown reason.
The vehicle rolled after entering a field, ejecting Smith and a passenger, Travis Hirt, 26, also of Batesville, Indiana from the vehicle.
Smith died at the scene as a result of his injuries.
Hirt was transported to Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville, Indiana to be treated for his injuries which are believed to be non-life threatening.
Investigators determined that neither occupant of the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
