Batesville, IN – 2 games defined by the execution on the defensive side of the diamond went down to the wire on Saturday between the Batesville Bulldogs and the Jennings County Panthers.
In game 1, the pitching controlled the whole game. Jennings County’s starting pitcher struck out 8, while Batesville’s Will Huber struck out 6 to match him. A double by Brody Paul put Jennings County Junior Varsity Panthers on the board in the bottom of the fifth, but the Bulldogs captured the lead, 2-1, in the top of the sixth after Jackson Elston singled to center field, and Meyer doubled down the left field line, each scoring one run.
William Huber earned the win for Batesville. The pitcher allowed six hits and one run over seven innings, striking out six and walking two. Game 1 goes the Bulldogs, 2-1.
Game 2 was more of the same story, another pitching duel, classic baseball at its’ finest. This time Batesville pitched a shutout lead by starting pitcher, Max Meyer, who retired 9 batters to start the game. A single by Levi Hunt put the Bulldogs on the board in the top of the third, 2-0. No errors were committed in the field in game 2 as Batesville was very sound all day.
Max Meyer earned the win for the Bulldogs, he threw 3 innings of scoreless baseball. Giving up 0 hits and 0 earned runs, while striking out 4 and walking just 1 batter. Batesville claims the sweep in game 2, final score, 3-0.
