(Batesville, IN) – Batesville City Council approved a resolution Monday night to use $500,000 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) or Coronavirus funds on park improvements.
Plans call for refurbishing the Liberty Park tennis courts; tree maintenance; paving the gravel walking paths on the west side of the Reservoir and the east and west sides of The Plex; parking lot paving plus grandstand and pavilion rest room improvements at Liberty Park, and construction of a new maintenance building along the Liberty Field 3rd baseline.
“It (the new maintenance building at Liberty Park) will replace the buildings that are out there,” said Clerk-Treasurer Paul Gates, who presented the resolution to council. “They’re very old, they’re getting antiquated, they don’t quite fit the room that we need. So that’s part of the project. We think this is a great use. It’s long-term and it will be there for many, many years to come.
“When you get money like this, you want to make sure you’re using it for something long-term that would be a burden on the budget to do otherwise, so this fits the bill,” Gates added.
The city was originally awarded $1.5 Million in ARPA funds and used $175,000 last year for the Batesville SkatePark and Outdoor Adventure project.
