Batesville, IN — There are currently no rules on the books regulating food trucks in Batesville, but that could change soon.

City Council took up the matter Monday night and discussed at length items such as health inspections, fire suppression equipment, liability insurance, and rules on distances between brick-and-mortar establishments and food trucks.

The distances discussed were primarily in the 50- to 100-foot range.

Councilmembers expressed support for the food trucks but said they want to make sure there is accountability among food truck operators who set up within the city limits.

Morgan Moon, who operates “That’s A Wrap” with her husband, told council they are in favor of regulation, and she noted that the Ripley County Health Department’s food services inspection is stringent.

Council hopes to have an ordinance ready for consideration at next month’s meeting, which is scheduled for March 13.
