Batesville 7th grade girls win Jennings Holiday Tournament

The Batesville Middle School 7th grade girls basketball team started their season with a bang by winning the Jennings County Holiday Tournament.

The Bulldogs played the host; Jennings County, in game one. They started slow against the aggressive Panthers with a 2-8 score at the end of the first quarter. The team settled in and scored 16 points in the 2nd quarter to take a 16-12 lead. The team continued to play hard against the pressure defense. The Bulldogs- also played good defense to stop JC from scoring any fastbreak points. Hailee Weisenbach did a great job to defend the layups. They finished with a 30-20 win.
Scoring for the Bulldogs were: Maggie Jelinik with 7 points, Jersey Trenkamp earned 5 points. Maggie Peters & Leah Meyer each had 4 points. Madi Dierkman chipped in 3 points. Caitlin Raver, Abby Miller, and Molly Gessel each had 2 points. Hailee Weisenbach added one point.

Then the Lady Bulldogs faced Connersville in the Championship Game. In this game, the team burst to a 12-6 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. The team played aggressive defense to hold Connerville to 16 total points and won 24-16. Top scorers were Jersey Trenkamp with 6 points, Hailee Weisenbach with 5 points, Molly Gesell & Maggie Jelinek had 4 points each. Leah Meyer had 3 points and Maggie Peters earned 2 points. Also contributing to the wins were Jayla Bedel and Laken Obermeyer with solid defense.
