Decatur County Communications is reporting that they have received multiple calls from concerned citizens stating they are receiving phone calls that a loved one has been incarcerated in Decatur County Jail and requesting money for bail over the phone. County officials assure you that the Decatur County Jail will never call and ask you to send money for bail, bail can only be paid cash, certified bank check, or credit card at the jail. These calls are scams and no personal information should be given over the phone.
Unfortunately, these calls normally originate outside of Decatur County’s jurisdiction, so there is no report to be taken by law enforcement. However, you can report these incidents to the Indiana Attorney General at 1.800.382.5516.
