(Greensburg, IN) – Cecil Ison’s request to rezone the historic Metz Building in New Point (pictured) from residential to business was given the thumbs up this week by the Decatur County Area Plan Commission.

Ison is a New Point native and the owner of Ison’s Family Pizza in Batesville, and plans to open in the building a second restaurant, which will be called Crackaway Pizza Company.

“Instead of using our Ison’s Family Pizza name…we’re going to change our ingredients or do anything crazy, but instead of calling it ‘Ison’s Family Pizza New Point,’ I wanted to pay homage to the town and go with the Crackaway Pizza Company name,” Ison said.

He told the Plan Commission about the work he has put in to rehabbing the building on East County Road 200 South. Plans include using the services of artist Beverly Wilson, who has painted in Greensburg, Napoleon and elsewhere.

“She is going to do some wonderful things on the side of our building and repaint the original block lettering that says ‘G.W. Metz General Merchandise’ and ‘We Sell Bryce’s Mothers Bread’ in giant bold letters, going to put all that back up there and make the old, new again,” Ison said.

In addition, Ison says he’s thankful for the community support, and plans to pay it forward at the new restaurant similar to what he’s done through the flagship location in Batesville.

“We are really trying to be a good steward to the community and we want to put that building back to where it should be, and with life in it with the pizza shop, and we plan on doing so much more in New Point,” Ison said.

He is targeting the opening for later this year or in early 2025.
