Anthony Joseph Moster passed away peacefully on July 4, 2022 at the age of 86. He was born on April 13, 1936 at the family farm near Oldenburg, IN to John and Emma (Obermeyer) Moster. Before marrying Patricia Merkel on June 20, 1959 at St. Anthony Catholic church in Morris, IN, he served two years in the Army. They established their homestead south of Morris in 1960 and welcomed ten children.
Tony was a member of St. Anthony parish where he taught religious education, worked bingo, chaired the Big Six booth, and served on parish council. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Tony was a lifelong farmer, owned Moster Mobile Milling, and sold Dekalb Seed. He was very involved in Ripley County Farm Bureau, including serving as President. Morris Volunteer Fire Department was another passion of his where he volunteered for 50 years, including seven as chief.
Tony’s priorities were faith, family, and farming. Community, charity, and cards were also in the top ten. If there was a card game going on, he wanted to be part of it. Nothing made him happier than a family gathering that included an afternoon of solo, 500, or euchre, along with a little talk about farming.
Tony is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patricia, and children: Bernadette (Doug) Huber, Stephanie, Geraldine (Bill) Kuntz, Regina (Mark) Siefert, Vincent (Marcy), Dominic (Brenda), Sebastian (Angie), Eric (Kelly), and Gloria (Michael) Brelage, 32 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren (plus one on the way), and one sister Beata Moloney. Tony was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Charlet, nine siblings, and one great-granddaughter Mary Knueven.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 13th from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home. Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 14th at St. Anthony’s Church with Rev. Shaun Whittington officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites conducted by the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271 and the Ripley County V.F.W. Post #3183. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Anthony Catholic church in Morris, or the Morris Volunteer Fire Department.
