Allen L. Walke

Allen L. Walke, age 89 of Batesville, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, November 20th, 2024, at the St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville.  He was born on May 26th, 1935, in Batesville, the son of Elma (Nee: Narwold) and Louis Walke.  He married Doris Gindling on June 27th, 1959, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church near Sunman, Indiana and she preceded him in death on December 13th, 2023.  Allen worked at Hill-Rom Industries for 47 years.  Allen served his country in the United States Army from January 1954 to end of December 1955.

Allen had many hobbies but one that carried to the end was “his love of driving”.  Allen liked to drive on the open roads which carried into his month-long Florida trip, post-retirement, during January to be in the warm weather at the beach and Daytona 500 activities.  In addition to long trips via road in the US, he loved to travel overseas too.

Allen was a “doer” and was very handy in developing tools and fixing things.  He always enjoyed being able to help his children and assist with doing things for them, as well as teaching them how to do it themselves.  Allen had the “can do spirit” and said the most important thing is to always try.

Allen is survived by daughters Barbara Walke of Osgood, Indiana and Jane (David) Peterson of Chicago, Illinois; son James Walke of Batesville; grandchildren Jason, Kate and Claire Walke; great grandson Bentley Walke.

In addition to his wife and parents, Allen was preceded in death by his brother Willard Walke.
