Alfred W. “Pete” Barhorst, 90, passed from this life on Sunday, May 3, 2020 at his home surrounded by family.
Born on February 28, 1930 in McCartyville, Ohio, he was the son of Frank and Ida (Fry) Barhorst.
Pete joined the United States Marine Corp. in 1951 and served in the Korean War. He married Laverne Waters in Millhousen, Indiana on November 26, 1953. He was a devoted father and hard-working farmer, as well as a proud member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg, Indiana. As a proud member of the USMC, Pete attended the Indy Honor Flight in 2015 and is a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion, Post 129.
Pete is survived by his loving wife, Laverne Barhorst, his children: Ronnie (Carol) Barhorst, Tim Barhorst, and Sharon (Gary) Fischer and sister: Delores Simon. He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Barhorst, and his brother, Norbert Barhorst.
He was blessed with seven grandchildren: Rebecca (Scott) Rahschulte, Jason (Erin) Barhorst, Stephanie (Dan) Kress, Jacqueline (Davin) Jobst, Aaron Barhorst, Benjamin (Caitlin) Fischer, and Alexander Fischer, and eight great grandchildren: Madison Rahschulte, Ethan Rahschulte, Lauren Jobst, Morgan Jobst, Maya Kress, Sunny Kress, Harrison Kress, and Maxwell Fischer.
Private Funeral services will take place on Thursday at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home followed by burial at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Millhousen.
Memorials can be made in Pete’s honor to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Indy Honor Flight through Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home.
