INDIANAPOLIS — Dale Coyne Racing barely had the same driver in the same car from week to week last year. They are hoping for more consistency this year as they have announced Jacob Abel as one of their drivers for the upcoming season.
Abel will be driving the 51-car for the full NTT IndyCar Series season. He makes the jump to the top open-wheel series in North America after finishing as the runner-up in the Indy NXT Series last season.
“It’s a lifelong dream come true,” Abel said. “I’ve had a great relationship with Dale for the last couple of years, and I’m very thankful for the confidence he has in me. It’s going to be a fun but challenging journey, and I can’t wait to get started.”
Abel won three races in the 2024 Indy NXT season and finished on the podium in 10 of the season’s 14 races.
Abel is expected to begin testing with the team at Thermal at the end of the month. It’s unclear who he will be teaming up with in the Coyne stable in the second full-time entry within the Dale Coyne charter.
