(Batesville, IN) – Batesville City Council approved a $4,849 request for Belterra Funds on Monday night that will be used by the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce to attract people to the city for upcoming events this fall and into the holiday season.

Chamber board member and local business owner Mary Ellen Rippe says the plan is similar to what was done for Batesville BooVille last year but expanded to a three-month marketing campaign.

“I don’t know if anybody saw the Bengals game yesterday (Sunday), but in the 4th quarter they needed they needed the big play to win. Well, this is Batesville’s 4th quarter in terms of retail spending and dining dollars,” Rippe said. “So I’m looking for the big play.”

Rippe says funding would allow them to create and implement a 15-week campaign to support local events plus merchants and restaurants.

“Even though I’m asking on behalf of the chamber, it will truly be more of a community marketing plan to make a Batesville a destination,” she said. “And the reason why I’m asking is because we have so many great activities and shops here in town.”

Among those, Rippe cited Apple Fest on September 26 and 27 at Liberty Park, along with Batseville BooVille and other October activities, plus the Christmas holiday events.

The request was approved by a 4-0 vote. Councilmember Melissa Tucker, who is also Batesville Chamber Executive Director, was not present at Monday night’s meeting.
