(Greensburg, IN) – Dennis Fogle is this year’s recipient of the Optimist of the Year Award, which was presented Thursday morning by the Greensburg Optimist Club.
Fogle is retired from Decatur County Memorial Hospital, where he served in a number of roles.
Upon receiving the award, Fogle said he was surprised and a bit overwhelmed.
“You do things in the community and you do things for church, but you just do them. That’s what you’re supposed to do,” he said.
His multitude of community activities include work with Hospice, the Cheer Fund, Big Brothers Big Sisters, acting as a 4-H judge, service on the Decatur County Memorial Hospital Board, Tree County Players and the Greensburg Optimist Club.
“I love coming here every Thursday morning at 6:30 and enjoying the fellowship with everyone here, and to be honored like this by them is just unbelievable,” he said.
Megan Gehrich with Tree County Players, Greensburg Meals on Wheels Executive Director Diana Robbins, and Decatur County Memorial Hospital President and CEO Rex McKinney delivered remarks touting Fogle’s community involvement and positive outlook.
Thursday’s presentation took place at the Greensburg Community Bread of Life on Randal Street.
The award is named for the late Jim Greiwe, who received the first Optimist of the Year Award in 1977 and was posthumously honored in 1978.
