(Batesville, IN) – Businesses in Batesville’s Cross County Plaza were closed for about an hour and a half after a carbon monoxide leak was reported in the shopping area late Wednesday morning.
Initial reports indicated a gas leak had occurred, but it has since been determined that CO was the source of the problem.
Batesville Water & Gas says the leak was caused by faulty furnaces, which have been shut off.
The utility is contacting the landlord.
Officials urged people to avoid the area while Batesville firefighters remedied the issue.
The all-clear was signaled around 1 p.m. after the source of the leak was pinpointed and taken care of it.
