(Versailles, IN) – The body of an Osgood man who disappeared at Versailles State Park on Friday has been recovered.
Indiana Conservation Officer divers using sonar found the body of 18-year-old Carson Hughes in six feet of water in the park’s lake Sunday night around 6:50 p.m.
Hughes was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ripley County Coroner. An exact cause of death is pending autopsy results.
He was reported missing around 1:30 Friday afternoon.
Hughes’ unlocked vehicle was spotted near the boat ramp with the keys still in it, and his kayak was reported in the water nearby.
Agencies involved in the search included the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office, Ripley County Coroner’s Office, Indiana State Police Aviation, Ripley County EMA, Ripley County EMS, the Ripley County Health Department, Versailles Fire Rescue, the Delaware Fire Department, Hamilton County (Ohio) Urban Search and Rescue, the Friendship Volunteer Fire Department, Batesville Fire and Rescue, Buckeye Search and Rescue, Ohio Task Force One, Texas EquuSearch, the Hamilton County (Ohio) Police Association Dive Team, and hundreds of civilian volunteers.
Helicopters, drones and other aircraft were also used in this weekend’s search.
