Ralph “Loyd” Morgan, 90, died July 29, 2018, at Aspen Place in Greensburg. He was born at Clarksburg, Indiana, July 28, 1928, to parents Frank L. and Mary (nee Wilson) Morgan. In 1946, he graduated from Clarksburg High School. September 2, 1947, Loyd married his childhood sweetheart, Martha Frances Cupp. With the exception of three years living in Brookville, they resided in Clarksburg. Loyd was brilliant at fixing almost everything, and that led him to begin his career as a mechanic working for his brother, Layman, at Morgan’s Garage in Clarksburg. In 1952, he went to work for Hillman Bros. Ford in Brookville, where he was service manager for over 20 years. Loyd then worked for D & M in Connersville as a forklift mechanic, retiring in 1990. He was quite the do-it-yourself person, whether it was plumbing, electricity or carpentry. He loved “tinkering” in his garage doing fix-it jobs, and refurbishing used and antique cars. He also used his talents to help others by repairing cars, mowers, tractors – you name it – for family, friends, church, etc. Loyd was a longtime, faithful member of the Clarksburg Christian Church, serving as Elder, Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and in many other capacities. He was a past volunteer fireman with the Clarksburg Fire Department, and overseer of the Clarksburg Cemetery for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 60 years, serving in many positions in the Lodge, including Master of Clarksburg Masonic Lodge #124. Loyd was a man of few words, but could bring a smile to those with whom he shared his quick, dry wit. He was a constant presence in his family’s life, and will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him. Loyd is survived by his devoted and cherished wife of almost 71 years, along with their three children: George Morgan, Carole (Mike) Holbrook, and Janet Shields, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers: Layman, George and Calvin, and his son-in-law, Jack Shields. Visitation will be held at the Clarksburg Christian Church July 31, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will also be held at the Clarksburg Christian Church August 1, 2018, at 10:00 a.m., with pastor Jerran Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at the Clarksburg Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clarksburg Christian Church ladies’ group, “The Loyal Circle,” or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
