Greensburg, In. — Tawna Chauncy has been sentenced to 16 years in prison in Decatur County Circuit after a plea deal in a methamphetamine dealing case.
On May 14 Chauncy entered the plea before Judge Matthew Bailey. The law dictates she must serve 75-percent of the sentence with good behavior because of a Level 3 Felony conviction.
Prosecutor Nathan Harter said, “Thanks to hard work of our officers, we were able to remove an outlet for drugs from our streets. The negative impact created in our community by these drugs is obvious and needs to be handled carefully. Not only were we able to make our community safer with this sentence, but by placing Chauncy in the Purposeful Incarceration program, we were also able to provide an avenue for help with her substance abuse problem.”
Chauncy was arrested during a routine traffic stop in April of this year.
