Greensburg man arrested after attempting to flee

GREENSBURG, Ind. — A Greensburg man has been arrested after evading police and being stopped by a K-9 officer.

According to police, Zachery A. Kress, 21, was arrested after he fled from an off-duty officer. Kress was wanted on an escape charge, after violating a home detention order. The off-duty officer followed a minivan, which Kress was riding in, to the Decatur County YMCA, and observed Kress exit the van and run toward Ohio Street.

The officer informed dispatch of Kress’ location. Police set up a perimeter around the area, and a K-9 state police officer was brought in, and Kress was located in a fenced in residential yard. Police obtained permission to enter the property.

Kress attempted to flee several times from police. Officers warned Kress the K-9 would be released if he did not cooperate. The K-9 was released and took Kress to the ground by biting him in the leg.

Kress was evaluated at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital before being booked on charges of Battery Resulting in Bodily Injury to a Public Safety Officer, Battery Against a Public Safety Officer, Resisting Law Enforcement, and Possession of Marijuana.
