INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — A hit-and-run crash on I-465 on the south side of Indianapolis Tuesday morning, claimed the life of a Rushville man.
At around 8:15 AM, Indiana State Police responded to a 911 call regarding a personal injury crash near the 0 mile marker, just west of I-65 SB.
According to police, Jeffrey A. Smith, 53, of Rushville was operating a crane, which had mechanical issues, and was parked on the right shoulder.
Smith was standing on the shoulder while a mechanic was repairing the crane.
Witnesses tell police that a red or maroon Ford pickup truck drove off the right side onto the shoulder and struck Smith.
The pickup did not stop.
Smith was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The mechanic was not injured.
