Janis Rose Carnes, 79, Westport

Janis Rose Carnes, 79, of Westport, passed away at 5:03 a.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at her residence. She was born on March 29, 1943, in Osgood, the daughter of Alpha Marie (Cline) and Omer Morris Morton, Sr. She was born and raised in Osgood and has been a Westport resident for the past 40 years. Janis enjoyed walking, puzzles, and flower gardening. She married John Carnes and he preceded her in death in 1997. She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Mozingo of Hartsville, and Marie Mozingo of Westport; her sons, Marion “Junior” Mozingo of Westport, Robert “Bobby” Mozingo of Fort Myers, Florida, and Doug Mozingo of Greensburg; her sister, Helen Bolt of Florida; her brother, Omer Morris Morton of Milan; her grandchildren, Tiffany Fox of Westport, and Rusty Jones of Bloomington; her great grandchildren, Klara Buell and Braydon Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Morris Edward “Moe” Mozingo; sisters, Phyllis Morton, Mary Morton, Joyce Morton, Dorothy Dickson, and Barbara Huntington; brothers, Clarence Morton, Henry Morton and Donald Morton. The funeral service will be on Friday, March 10, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with cremation to follow. Pastor Mike Bartlett will be officiating. A time of visitation will be held on Friday, March 10, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
