Greensburg, Ind. — Jim Ponsler has announced his candidacy for sheriff in Decatur County. Ponsler is an Indiana State Trooper and Westport resident. Ponsler made the announcement at the recent Westport Covered Bridge Festival.
Ponsler is a 25-year veteran of the Indiana State Police, and wants to increase training for deputies in phases of law enforcement- criminal activity, traffic and dealing with the public. He also wants to increase outreach in area schools in order to educate young people on the dangers of illegal drug use.
The primary election will be held in May of 2018.
