Freeda Mae Hansmann, 90, of Versailles passed away at 8:15am, Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at the Ridge Wood Health Campus in Lawrenceburg. She was born near Canaan in Jefferson County on September 4, 1928 the daughter of Frederick and Myrtle Daleglish Hankins. She was married to Paul Hansmann on February 14, 1948 and he preceded her in death on March 31, 1994. Survivors include one son Paul (Laura) Hansmann, Jr. of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; one grandson Lance (Tiffany) Hansmann of Burnsville, Minnesota; one granddaughter Heather (Joe) Terry of Minnetonka, Minnesota; two great-granddaughters Piper and Paige Terry; one sister Maxine Roberts of Madison. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her son Brad Hansmann, her brothers Mitchell, Loren, David, and William Hankins; and her sisters Lela Elston, Marjorie Mathews, Esther Hoffman, and Loretta Fleek. Mrs. Hansmann was a 1947 graduate of Milan High School. She was a homemaker and a member of the Washington Baptist Church at Elrod. Freeda loved children and for 28 years while Paul’s job took them to different places, she taught pre-school in Springfield, Illinois, Canton, Ohio, Peoria, Illinois, and Sioux City, Nebraska. At the Washington Baptist Church Freeda taught Sunday school and worked with the VBS and Awana program. Another part of her personal ministry was to visit church members and friends in the nursing home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 22nd at 11am at the Washington Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Fitzsimmons officiating. Burial will be in the Grandview Memorial Garden near Madison. Visitation will also be on Monday at the church beginning at 10am. Memorials may be given to the Washington Baptist Church in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.
