2 arrested after altercation

GREENSBURG, Ind. — A Greensburg man and woman were arrested after an altercation. According to police, Wade V Markland was arrested on charges of domestic battery, strangulation, criminal confinement, and interference with the reporting of a crime, while Tanya Bannon was arrested on charges of neglect of a dependent and interference with the reporting of a crime.

An investigation began when a teenager went to the Greensburg Police Department and said that she had been hit by Markland several times. She also told police that he put her in a choke hold, and sat on top of her while choking her. The young girl tried multiple times to leave the home, but couldn’t. She fled to a bathroom and tried to call 911, but Bannon forced her way into the room and broke the teen’s cellphone. The young girl also told police that Bannon told the girl to wear make-up to mask the bruising and cuts on her face.

Police later met with Bannon who told them that an argument began between the girl and Markland and ended in violence with the teen clawing Markland and Markland slapping her in the face. Bannon also told police the teen broke her own phone, and nobody prevented her from calling 911. Bannon denied telling the teen to wear makeup.

Police later met with Markland who denied intentionally striking the teenager. He told police that her injuries were self-inflicted.
