(Batesville, IN) – Three Southeastern Indiana YMCA staff members were recognized with the YMCA S.O.A.R. Award (Service and Outstanding Achievement Recognition) during the January
meeting of the YMCA Board of Directors. The award honors staff who go above and beyond in living out the Y’s mission through exceptional service, dedication, and leadership.

Katie Oesterling was recognized for her decade of service and the essential role she plays in keeping the YMCA a welcoming, well-maintained space for members and staff alike. As part of the facilities team, Oesterling is known for her attention to detail, reliability, and genuine care for the people who walk through the doors each day.

“If you’ve been around the last 10 years, you’ve seen Katie—she’s responsible for the day-to-day cleaning and keeping this place in top shape,” said Nick Becker, Facilities Manager at the Southeastern Indiana YMCA. “She knows our members by name, notices everything, and is always quick to step in—whether it’s a light bulb that needs to be changed or helping someone find a lost item. She truly does it all.”

Mayra Adams was honored for her 10 years of service as a group exercise instructor and for the energy, inclusivity, and passion she brings to every class she leads. Over the years, Adams has taught a wide variety of programs, including Zumba, Aqua Zumba, Zumba Toning, SilverSneakers, Senior Fitness, and Zumba Kids.

“Mayra loves our members, and they love her right back,” shared Tameeka Sizemore, Membership and Operations Director. “She is always willing to volunteer and help wherever she’s needed. She and her fellow instructors are even preparing to host a Tri-Zumba-Thon February 7, offering a trifecta of Zumba Fitness, Zumba Toning, and Aqua Zumba. We are incredibly grateful for her commitment and the joy she brings to our community.”

Dan Strotman, one of the YMCA’s newer lifeguards, was recognized for quickly stepping into a leadership role and demonstrating professionalism and confidence well beyond his tenure.

“Even though Dan hasn’t been here long, he has already proven himself in so many ways,” said Alyssa Enneking, Assistant Director of Programs. “He consistently steps up to cover shifts, communicates clearly, and isn’t afraid to take the lead to ensure safety in the pool area. That level of confidence and responsibility is especially impressive in a newer guard.”

Strotman is currently working toward a future in the military, and the YMCA community is proud to support him as he prepares for that next chapter.

Southeastern Indiana YMCA Chief Executive Officer Tara Britton added, “Our staff are the heart of our mission. Each of these individuals embodies what it means to serve others with care, responsibility, and dedication. Their impact is felt every day by the members, families, and community we serve.”
