Woman arrest on OWI charges with child in vehicle

North Vernon, IN — A North Vernon woman was arrested Tuesday evening after Deputies responded to the report of an unconscious female in the middle of the roadway.

LAte Tuesday evening, Deputies with the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Montgomery Township in reference to an unconscious female sitting in her vehicle at the wheel and barely breathing. While responding to the call, a deputy located a vehicle matching the description given, but it was involved in an accident approximately 2 miles north of the original location.

The deputy made contact with the female driver, Constance Miller, 27, of North Vernon, and a 5-year-old passenger. Jennings County EMS arrived on the scene and provided care to both Constance and the child. After further investigation, it was determined that Constance was under the influence of illegal drugs. During the investigation, deputies allege to have located a controlled substance inside of the vehicle. Constance was subsequently transported to the Jennings County Jail where she is currently being held. Deputies contacted the Department of Child Services who provided care for the child for approximately 2 hours until arrangements were made.

Constance Miller was charged on allegations of Operating While Intoxicated- Endangerment with a child under the age of 18, Neglect of A Dependent Child, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Operating While Intoxicated.
